Ace Cafe London

More than just a café, Ace Cafe London is where speed, sound, and timeless British spirit collide in a celebration of freedom, individuality and community.

Few places embody the spirit of British motor culture quite like Ace Cafe London. Famous for its roaring engines, leather jackets, and rock ’n’ roll soundtrack, this legendary venue on London’s North Circular Road has been a hub for bikers, car lovers, and rebels since 1938.

From Roadside Stop to Cultural Icon

Originally a simple roadside café serving truckers, the Ace’s 24-hour service and prime location soon attracted motorcyclists. By the late 1940s, it had become a gathering place for Britain’s growing biker community.

The café’s story wasn’t without bumps in the road. During World War II, it was badly damaged by an air raid, but it bounced back, reopening in 1949. By the 1950s and 60s, the Ace was booming — the meeting point for a new youth culture that celebrated speed, freedom, and music.

The Rockers and the Sound of Rebellion

The post-war years saw the rise of the “Ton-Up Boys”, young bikers who lived for the thrill of hitting 100 mph. Their soundtrack? Rock ’n’ roll. The jukebox at the Ace blasted hits from Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and other icons of the era, setting the tone for a rebellious movement that defined a generation.

That link between music, machines, and independence still runs through the Ace today. At Ace Cafe Radio, the volume is always up — keeping the spirit of rock ’n’ roll alive in the heart of London.

The Fall and the Return

By 1969, social changes and the growth of Britain’s motorway network pushed the Ace Cafe into decline. Cars replaced bikes, and the café closed its doors — seemingly for good.

But true passion doesn’t fade. In 1993, Mark Wilsmore announced plans to revive the Ace’s legacy through an annual Ace Cafe Reunion and a campaign to reopen the original site. Thousands of riders returned for the first reunion in 1994, proving that the Ace spirit was still alive.

Three years later, in December 1997, the Ace Cafe London reopened on part of its original site. Once again, the engines roared, the music played, and a new generation discovered what made the Ace legendary.

More Than a Café — A Global Family

Today, the Ace has gone global, with venues in Beijing, Lahti, Luzern, Kuala Lumpur, Orlando, and more. Each one captures the same authentic energy that made the London original famous — a celebration of individuality, style, and the shared love of machines.

Every Ace Cafe may have its own local touch, but all share the same DNA: speed, sound, and freedom. From classic Triumphs to custom Harleys, every visitor adds their story to the Ace’s ongoing legacy.

With a Premises Licence from the London Borough of Brent, the Ace can even host private parties, weddings, receptions, and corporate events. It’s also a popular setting for photo and film shoots, product launches, and business gatherings — all set against a backdrop of pure rock ’n’ roll history.
